Looking Back

There were a number of games held last weekend at UW-Baraboo as part of a mini-jamboree event for the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.

Things got underway with a 64-51 win for Wausau over Washington. Patience Pyan, a second year standout from Merrill High School, poured in 34 points to lead the way for Wausau, who attempted an incredible 85 shots in the game, thanks in large part to 31 Washington turnovers.

Things got pretty crowded at the top of the WCC women's division later in the weekend, as Richland suffered its first league loss to Marinette by a final of 48-41.

In turn, Marinette lost for the first time on Saturday, suffering a 48-34 setback against Wausau. That created a virtual three-way tie atop the league standings between Marinette, Richland, and Wausau.

In other Saturday action, Barron downed Fox Cities 41-37 and Washington knocked off Marshfield 54-50. Unfortunately no stats were entered for any games on Saturday.

Looking Ahead

There are three games on the schedule tonight, one on Friday, and then the teams take a hiatus for a couple weeks over the holiday break.

Two of tonight's contests are non-conference showdowns, as Marinette travels to Gogebic College (MI) and Richland makes the trip to Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.

Wausau will try to remain in a tie atop the league standings with a trip to Barron, who is 3-2 in conference action to this point.

WCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: PATIENCE PYAN, WAUSAU

Wausau has dominated the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference women's hoops scene the last few years, and while the Huskies had an early stumble in 2019, they've righted the ship lately. In a 64-51 win over Washington on Friday, second-year player Patience Pyan scored a game-high 34 points with six rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Pyan also won the award twice last year.
