Looking Back

It was a big week for Sheboygan, who scored three, single-digit victories to take a commanding three-game lead in the WCC-East Division. Still unbeaten in league play, the Wombats rallied to defeat rival Manitowoc 88-84 last Wednesday after trailing by five at halftime. First-year player Jalen Brown-Morrow (Messmer HS) poured in a game-high 32 points. Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan Lutheran HS) added 11 points and 15 rebounds in the victory. In a cross-division game on Friday at the Champions Center in Appleton, Sheboygan downed Wausau 87-78. Barnstable had 29 points, while Brown-Morrow and Myreon Grant added 19 points apiece. The Wombats added a 96-90 victory over Marinette on Monday in another come-from-behind performance. Barnstable again led the way with 29 points. After totaling just four points in the previous three games, Austin Kretschmann (Sheboygan South HS) scored a career-high 21 points.

Marshfield went 2-0 in games last week as the Marauders look to make some noise in the second half of the season. In a 92-74 win over Fond du Lac last Wednesday, Ethan Posteluk (Marshfield HS) was 11-for-19 from the field, including 5-for-10 from deep in scoring a game-high 29 points, adding 13 rebounds as well. Colton Wright (Auburndale) added 21 while Jack Bezlyk (Spencer HS) had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Marauders also took down Marinette 77-59 on Friday at the Champions Center.

While it came in a trio of losses, Fond du Lac's Nick Brakebrush (Westfield HS) had a big week, averaging 28 points per game in the three contests.

Looking Ahead

Sheboygan holds a dominating three-game lead in the WCC-East with no signs of slowing down, and the Wombats can continue to keep the pedal to the metal with three games in the next week. Tonight, the team welcomes in a struggling Fond du Lac squad. It is a big showdown on Saturday, as the Wombats travel to WCC-West leading Baraboo in a preview of a potential WCC Tournament contest. Sheboygan closes out the run of games with a home opportunity against Richland on Monday.

Manitowoc has three games in the next week as well, two of them the non-conference variety. The Blue Devils host Gogebic Community College out of Michigan tonight, Washington on Saturday, and Holy Family College on Monday.

Waukesha is in second place in the WCC-East with games at Washington and Fond du Lac coming up.

WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DELVIN BARNSTABLE, SHEBOYGAN LUTHERAN

Sheboygan is the dominating team in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference so far this season, sitting undefeated in league play atop the Eastern Division. Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan Lutheran HS) has been the team's go-to scorer all season, averaging nearly 24 points per game. In a trio of close victories last week, he scored 22, 29, and 29 points to lead the way, averaging more than 10 rebounds per game as well.
