By Travis Wilson, special for the WCC

Each week, WCC media partner will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

UW-Richland's five-game winning streak came to an end on Monday against UW-Fox Valley, but the Roadrunners greatly impacted the West Division race over the weekend. On Saturday, Richland hosted UW-Marathon, who at the time was just a game behind Rock in the standings. However, Richland scored a 96-91 victory, as Marathon is now two games behind UW-Rock in the loss column with just one league contest remaining for the Huskies. Rock has now secured at least a share of the West Division title.

WCC-East Division leading UW-Washington remained unbeaten in league play, but it was a nail-biting week for the Wildcats. On Saturday, the team trailed Marinette, 45-43, at halftime, but rallied for an 86-77 victory thanks to a 20-2 run to open the second half. It was the third road game of the week for Washington, and all three saw the team come back from early deficits to score victories.

As mentioned previously, Fox scored a nice win over Richland on Monday, but the Cyclones dropped a close one to Sheboygan on Saturday, as the Wombats of Sheboygan outscored Fox Valley 39-26 in the second half to claim a 68-65 victory.

Looking Ahead

This is a huge week in the WCC-West, where Marathon will need some help to catch Rock for the conference title. Marathon has a non-league game against Gogebic (MI) tonight, then faces a must-win contest on Saturday at UW-Baraboo. For Marathon to get a share of the league title, they have to beat Baraboo and need Rock to lose both games this week.

UW-Rock hosts UW-Marshfield on Saturday. Rock then has a huge game coming up next Monday against East-leading UW-Washington, a contest that was postponed several times earlier this year. If Rock can win just one of the two games, they'll earn an outright division title.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jayden Hardy, UW-Waukesha

UW-Waukesha defeated UW-Manitowoc 83-62 on Saturday, as the Cougars raced out to a 47-25 halftime advantage and cruised home from there. Jayden Hardy (Nicolet HS) scored a game-high 25 points, pulling down 10 rebounds as well. He was one of three Waukesha players with double-doubles, as Jackson Kunnert and Kurt Meyle also accomplished the feat.
