WAUKESHA - Sophomore wing Jayden Hardy from Nicolet registered a double-double with 24 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals as the UWM-Waukesha defeated UW-Marathon 76-65 in a season-opening Wisconsin Collegiate Conference game Saturday.
It was the home opener for UWM-Waukesha, which outscored the Huskies 41-20 in what proved to be a decisive first half.
Freshman wing Tyler Torosian from New Berlin West followed with 16 points and sophomore post player Kurt Meyle from St. John's Military Academy had 10 points and three rebounds for the Cougars, who converted six baskets from 3-point range, 4 of 7 free throws and pulled down 48 rebounds.
Freshman wing Jeremy Ninham from Nicolet contributed eight points, three rebounds and an assist for UWM-Waukesha, which finished with 18 assists. Freshman guard Jalen Black from Dominican chipped in six points, eight rebounds, two steals, two blocked shots and an assist.
Junior post player Montreale Rucker from Milwaukee South Division had five points, 10 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a blocked shot for the Cougars. Freshman wing Kris Zeise from Menomonee Falls added five points.
