WAUKESHA - Freshman point guard Aleah Herron from Milwaukee Rufus King scored a team-high 24 points with 4 of 5 free throws, four steals, three rebounds and three assists as the UWM-Waukesha women's basketball team lost to conference co-leader UW-Fond du Lac 75-62 in a hard-fought Wisconsin Collegiate Conference game at the UWM-Waukesha Field House on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second conference loss of the season for UWM-Waukesha, which dropped to 3-2 in the highly contested league standings and 4-10 overall.
The defending WCC state runner-up Cougars trailed 40-32 at the intermission and were outscored 46-27 in the second half - including a 24-13 margin in what proved to be a decisive third quarter.
Sophomore guard Myaiza Allen from Milwaukee Riverside followed with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals for UWM-Waukesha, which made two baskets from 3-point range and 8 of 11 free throws. Sophomore wing Taylor Peterson from Mukwonago contributed eight points, three rebounds and a steal.
Sophomore forward Alexis Stone from Obama SCTE chipped in six points, a team-best 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots for the Cougars, who pulled down 33 rebounds. Sophomore guard Bri Jashinsky from Sussex Hamilton collected five points and two rebounds.
Sophomore forward Ariel Gonzales from Milwaukee Lutheran had four points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. Freshman forward Kylah Schmidt from Slinger added four points and three rebounds.
The Cougars will travel to face conference co-leader UW-Marinette in a rematch of last year's WCC state semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 2.
